When I Cook! Kaala Chana & Aloo

Another one of my all time favorites: Kaala Chana & Aloo (Black Chick-Peas & Potato)

Here's the recipe to follow!
  • Ingredients:
    • Kaala Chana \ Black Chick Peas 100g
    • 2 Large Potatoes
    • 1 Large Tomato
    • 1 Large Onion
    • 3 Green Chillies
    • 3 Tablespoons Ginger-Garlic Paste
    • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
    • 1 Teaspoon Red-Chilli Powder
    • 1 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
    • 1 Tablespoon Garam Masala Powder
    • Salt As Per Desired Taste
    • 3 Tablespoon Refined Cooking Oil OR Ghee 
  • Preparation:
    • Chop the onion, tomato & green chillies
    • Peel and quarter potatoes as per desired size
    • Soak black chick peas for at least 90 minutes or preferably overnight
  • Cooking Method:
    • Pressure cook the black chick peas upto 6 whistles. Once done, drain excess water.
    • In a wok heat the oil/ghee; sauté the onion, green chillies along with all the ginger-garlic paste and the powdered condiments. Approximately: not more than 2 minutes. 
    • Add the quartered potatoes and mix well with the mix in the wok.
    • Add the black chick peas and mix well.
    • Add the chopped tomatoes and salt as per your liking. Mix well
    • Add 3 cups water, mix well. Reduce flame/heat to the lowest possible degree and place a lid on the wok. Allow to cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Serving:
    • Garnish with fresh coriander
    • Can be served with a side of yoghurt a.k.a. curd.
    • Savour it with Roti/Chapati/Paratha (Indian Bread) or Steamed Basmati Rice.
